The Violet Fairy Book (Volume 7 of the “Colored Fairy Books"). The “Colored Fairy Books”, by Andrew Lang, together make up one of the largest collections of fairy tales ever compiled from a broad range of cultures and nationalities. In all, the collection presents 437 fairy tales over twelve volumes – each named by a distinctive color. All the volumes have been richly illustrated primarily by Henry J. Ford. The Violet Fairy Book, first published in 1901, contains the classics “The Story of a Gazelle”, “The Story of Hassebu”, “The Frog”, “The Enchanted Knife”, and 31 other tales.
