Rilla of Ingleside, by Lucy Maud Montgomery, was published in 1921 and centers on Bertha Marilla “Rilla” Blythe - Anne and Gilbert’s youngest child. The story takes place roughly ten years following “Rainbow Valley” and the First World War is about to unfold. As Europe falls into war, the Blythe and Meredith families are torn when Jem, Jerry, and many others enlist and depart for the battlefield. The 15-year old Rilla must learn to overcome her lack of ambition and come of age while the war puts all she loves at risk.
