The Man in the Iron Mask, by Alexandre Dumas, was first published in serial form between 1847 and 1850 and is actually the third part of a three volume d’Artagnan romance called The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later and chronicles the last days of the famous Musketeer foursome. Intrigue has captured the court of France once again, as it is discovered that Louis XIV has a twin brother, Philippe, who was hidden from birth by his father and mother. Aramis schemes to replace Louis XIV with Philippe and draws his friends unwittingly into a dangerous and ultimately deadly web of deceit and retribution.
