Northanger Abbey, by Jane Austen, was first published in 1817. Northanger Abbey is loosely connected to another of Jane Austen's novels, Persuasion, and is set partly in Bath, England. Catherine Morland is the 17 year old heroine who has a strong love of Gothic novels. The story begins as Catherine visits Bath for the first time and encounters her love interest Henry Tilney. She is invited to visit the Tilney estate, Northanger Abbey, which Catherine imagines to be full of dark Gothic mysteries.
