Lady Susan, by Jane Austen, was first published in 1871 long after the author's death. It is an epistolary novel (written as a journal) which the author never submitted for publication. The story chronicles the schemes of the widowed Lady Susan as she seeks a new husband for herself and for her daughter. Trouble ensues as the selfish but attractive Lady Susan tries to snare the best possible husband while maintaining a relationship with a married man.
