The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas, was first published in 1844. The Three Musketeers takes place in the 17th century and follows the exploits of d’Artagnan, who travels to Paris to join the Musketeers of the Guard. Not all starts well, however, as d’Artagnan first makes enemies with an older man (Comte de Rochefort) and in the fight loses his letter of recommendation to join the musketeers. Along the way d’Artagnan offends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis and challenges them each to duels. A timely scuffle with Cardinal Richelieu’s guards draws the four together as allies and their friendship is forged. Follow d’Artagnan’s adventures with his three friends who live under the motto “all for one, and one for all” in the danger and intrigue of King Louis XIII’s court and his conflict with the English.
