Around the World in Eighty Days, by Jules Verne, was first published in 1873. The adventure begins by introducing us to a rich English gentleman by the name of Phileas Fogg. Phileas, a bachelor, lived an unspectacular life whose only remarkable social engagement was that he was a member of the "Reform Club". One day he becomes embroiled in an argument at the club as to whether it was possible to travel around the world in 80 days. He accepts a bet that he himself can do it. Collecting his newly hired valet, Jean Passepartout, Phileas sets out on an incredible adventure to prove his doubters wrong.
